2009 Season

Click here for a short clip of the Legends Car Feature Race at Auburndale Speedway on 6/13/09

June 1, 2009

After the major chassis changes, including adding 30 lbs of weight, last Saturday I shaved a half second off my previous best time at Auburndale Speedway!  It will take more seat time for these changes to become the comfortable new norm but we are headed in the right direction - thanks Gary and Brandon.

May 28, 2009

It has been eight months since we have been to the track.  In that time INEX rules have changed, the Saturday night track we run in central Florida has changed and my driver situation has not yet materialized as anticipated.

Bill Trent and I have spent the winter updating my car to the 2009 INEX rules. In addition, along with the assistance of Gary Verdier and Brandon Thomson, we have changed the chassis set-up from the 3/8 mile Orlando Speedworld to the 1/4 mile Auburndale Speedway set-up.

May 30th will be our first visit to a track since September 2008.  Stay tuned for 2009 results and reactions!

WOW, what an experience it was participating in the 9th annual Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival.  There were over 500 cars on display and thousands of people who attended the event on October 17 and 18 in Lakeland, Florida.  This annual event is the brain child of Ford Heacock and has become a must attend event on the auto show circuit.

We had hundreds of people come by to see our # 77 Legends car.  Many enjoyed the opportunity to "try on" a real race car and preserve that unforgettable experience by having their picture taken in the car.

Race #6 in 2008:
It was bound to happen and last night was the night, I was spun out by a guying trying to pass me...or least that is the way it felt from the driver's seat. While running in seventh place at
Orlando Speedworld I spun out (or was helped to) in turn two on the last lap of the Chargers' heat race. As a conclusion to the night I finished in last place (8th) in the Chargers' 25 lap feature race. Last night was a lesson in set-up changes that were not helpful for this inexperienced driver. But we survived to race again!

July 20, 2008

Last evening I participated in my 11th Legends' car race (my fifth race of 2008).  We ran at Orlando Speedworld  where I finished sixth out of a nine car field in the Chargers' class.  Our plan for the remainder of the year is to make it to four more races before the season ends in November in Orlando.

April 23, 2008

WOW, last Saturday night at Orlando Speedworld was the most exciting time I've experienced in the eight LEGENDS races I have run!!!  I ran seventh out of eight in the Charger's heat race and eight in the Charger's 25 lap feature.  We ran a caution free event and everyone was able to drive their car on the trailer at the end of the night. : )

We will be making an appearance with the car at Wendall Watson Elementary School in north Lakeland.  The PTA is holding their annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 26th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..

April 6, 2008

Well last night I took to the track for my first race since November 2006.  I survived a slow qualifying time and finished 17th out of 18 cars entered in the Palm Beach Grading (PBG) Florida Legends Tour race at Auburndale Speedway.  I completed about 10 of the 35 laps when the oil light came on in the turns and I decided to park it rather than risk engine damage.

Though this was an inauspicious start to my sophomore race season the hope is that with more seat time I will be able to increase my competitiveness.

I would also like to extend my appreciation to Sign Specialist for their quick service.  They provided the # 77 door and roof and URL decals this year.  They were exceptionally fast in shipping the items!  Toby Adams and his staff understand customer service!   Sign Specialist is located at 1819 Lawrenceburg Highway in Waynesboro, TN and can be reached at 888-708-0021.

March 17,2008

We finally completed our season preparation last week!  The body is back on, new aluminum spindles are installed, and the chassis has been adjusted.  The first race for us looks to be on April 5th at Auburndale Speedway.

Bill Trent and I made great progress yesterday in preparing for the upcoming Legends Car season here in Florida.  We'll continue our prep work during the first week of March, as well as awaiting shipment of the last few items needed to begin our sophomore season in the Legends Car series.

February 20, 2008

Yesterday I picked up the re-painted body (the extra set of fenders will be ready next week).  Tonight Bill and I unloaded everything and put the car on jack stands to begin the prep work for the 2008 season.  My wife picked up the new decals from Melissa at Signs of the Tiger on Tuesday.  "Tornado Tim" is getting psyched up to hit the track after a year off!

February 15, 2008

I received word today from Bobby Minnix Jr. at Traviss Career Center that the painting of my Legends Car body has been completed by the students in his Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program.  Two days ago Melissa Konkol from Gause Academy's Signs of the Tiger school based enterprise notified me that the new number and name decals are ready for pickup.  The new number we will use in 2008 will be #77.

We are working to have the required 2008 updates installed and the body re-assembled in time to make the March 13th practice session at Orlando Speedworld The 2008 season at Orlando Speedworld kicks off on March 15th.

January 9, 2008

Today I dropped off the body and some new body panels with Bobby Minnix Jr., the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing instructor at Traviss Career Center in Lakeland (FL) for the new 2008 paint scheme to be applied.  It's exciting to envision a new look for the upcoming racing season.  A new suit always makes a guy feel better (and look better).  The newly painted panels should be ready to re-hang by the first week in February.  Stay tuned for progress updates as we prepare for 2008!

My Legends Car Series debut

I began racing in the Master's division of the Legends Car series in June 2006.  The Master's division is for drivers who are at least 40 years of age.  A sub-category of the Master's division, referred to as the Golden Master's, is for those of us who are at least 50 years old - my category.  I wonder what they call those racing who are over 60, the "Old Geezers" division?

During 2006 I was able to compete in just six events, all of them at Orlando Speedworld.  While my on track success was not great, if measured in the number of up front finishes, it was certainly a wonderful and thrilling experience.

We were also able to attend and display the car at the May 2006 Wheels of Faith car show at the First Baptist Church at the Malliin Lakeland, Florida.  The photo above was taken after the show.

I'd like to publicly thank Bill Trent for his many hours of support and assistance in my racing endeavors.  My "hat's off" to Rusty Marcus, the promoter at Orlando Speedworld, for his participant and fan friendly management style.  Dion Hinskey also deserves thanks for his advice and guidance in my getting involved in the Legends Car series.  Thanks guys!

The results for my 2006 efforts are shown below.  At Orlando Speedworld, while running in only six events, I finished the 2006 season tied for 29th place overall (out of 51 drivers) and 8th in the Master's division.

For 2007 I gave Gerald White Jr. the opportunity to move up from the Bandolero series to the Legends series by driving my car.  He had a very successful first year in the Legends Car series.  Details about Gerald's introduction to the world of Legends racing can be found by going to http://www.timforschools.com/buddy.htm.

I'm proud of what Gerald accomplished in 2007 and wish him well in his future racing endeavors!

My plans for the 2008 racing season have not been finalized as of this writing (12/23/07) but we are preparing for the upcoming season with a new paint scheme and a number change...stayed tuned !
